Berlin, Germany – The “Solar Catalyst Project” has officially launched its practical operations in Berlin with the installation of the first training solar panels at the KulturMarktHalle in Prenzlauer Berg. Funded by the Innovation Programme for Business Models and Pioneering Solutions (IGP) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the European Union via the InnoEnergy Skills Institute, the project operates as part of the European Solar Academy. This collaboration introduces a standardized qualification framework designed to address the structural skills gaps currently impacting the European solar market.
The current challenge in the solar sector is not a simple lack of labor, but a lack of structural precision. Current installation processes require specific categories of skilled labor at distinct stages of development. However, the German market, in particular, lacks a clearly defined category of Solar Technicians capable of bridging these stages with recognized, high-level expertise.
As the global economy grapples with the direct and indirect costs of a 20th-century fossil fuel dependency, the need for a reliable, professional class of solar experts has never been greater. The Solar Catalyst Project is the first step toward breaking this dependency by creating a standardized, EU-wide recognized professional class that ensures safety for both property and lives.
Led by greentech.training, the project has established a “real-world laboratory” designed to produce this new class of professionals. The program is structured to match the reality of modern project development, where certain skills are required only at specific points.
To reduce the financial risk for partner companies who are often tentative to hire full-time during market fluctuations, greentech.training offers two engagement models:
Lumpsum Training: For long-term internal workforce development.
Job-by-Job Engagement: A flexible fee-based model that allows companies to access the right skills exactly when the project stage requires them.
The project is designed to empower an international workforce, ensuring that green talent can be engaged effectively regardless of background or location. By establishing two distinct levels—the Solar Installer and the Solar Installation Technician—the initiative provides a clear career path that is recognized across borders via the European Digital Credential (EDC). This standardization allows the sector to grow holistically, ensuring that even as the industry navigates complex issues like resource extraction and shifting subsidies, the quality of implementation remains uncompromised.
Jerome Goerke, Founder of greentech.training, explains:
„Implementing this program alongside our local, national, and international partners comes at a pivotal moment. We are not just filling jobs; we are defining a new professional class. This framework allows technicians and employers to engage green talent in a standardized way that prioritizes safety and quality, creating a reliable bridge to a future that is no longer reliant on the fuels of the past.“
