As the global transition to sustainable energy accelerates, the need for skilled professionals to drive this change is more pressing than ever. In collaboration with InnoEnergy Skills Institute, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Chamber of Commerce in Tripoli, we’ve launched a program designed to equip professionals with the vital skills needed to support the solar energy industry, offering hands-on training and internationally recognised certification in solar technology.

Launching in September 2024, the Solar Technician – Light Commercial and Residential training process is a focused, 20-day course, offering candidates with prior technical qualifications the opportunity to upskill in both on-grid and off-grid solar systems. Delivered in English, the training is structured to provide not only technical proficiency but also career progression into project management and system planning, giving participants a broad foundation in renewable energy.

Key Objectives and Vision

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on Clean Energy, Decent Work, and Sustainable Communities. With solar installation still a growing profession in Lebanon, this program offers a chance to fill a critical skills gap, ensuring participants meet both local and international standards.

The InnoEnergy Skills Institute played a central role in the design and delivery of the training curriculum. Known across Europe as a leader in energy education, InnoEnergy has brought its considerable expertise to bear on crafting a programme that meets the evolving needs of the global solar industry.

This course not only covers the technical aspects of solar installation but also teaches participants how to manage and plan renewable energy projects, positioning them for leadership roles within the industry. The curriculum is aligned with IEC and VDE standards, ensuring that those completing the course are ready to work to the highest international benchmarks.

Training, Certification, and Employment Opportunities

The programme has been fully funded by the Government of Italy, with local certification provided by the Chamber of Commerce in Tripoli. Upon completion, participants received certification recognised both within Lebanon and internationally, giving them the credentials to pursue careers beyond the local market.

What makes this initiative particularly compelling is the direct pathway to employment. By pre-selecting candidates with national technical qualifications and English skills as well as demonstrated attributes such as resilience, adaptability, and resourcefulness—the programme ensures a high calibre of participants. 

Global partners looking for accredited solar installers and project managers will have access to a newly upskilled workforce ready for deployment from December 2024. This PV talent pipeline presents a unique opportunity for companies to draw on the skills of solar professionals as they expand their operations in renewable energy.

Interviews can be arranged immediately, and graduates will be available for both seasonal and full-time positions from January 2025.
